Craig Hall enlisted in the Army in 2005 as a 19K M1 Abrams Tank Crew member. After completing OSUT at Ft. Knox, KY he was assigned to D Co. 3rd Battalion 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division out of Ft. Hood, TX. He was deployed to Samarra, Iraq in October of 2006. During his usual route clearance mission in April of 2007 his tank was struck from underneath by a shape charged IED. The blast shattered most of the bones in his left foot and lower part of his leg. He spent a week in Germany before being sent back to Ft. Sam Houston, TX to be further evaluated. Eventually he had no choice but to have his left leg amputated below the knee. After rehabilitation for the next year at the Center for the Intrepid he was discharged and moved back to Massachusetts to be closer to his family. He is now attending Springfield Technical Community College working on classes to one day be working in the field of Prosthetic and Orthotics. In his spare time he races Flat Track motorcycles in Winchendon, MA. which is run by former AMA Pro Flat Track racer Roger Durkee and current AMA Pro Flat Track starter/flagger Kevin Clark.
