Josh enlisted in the Army in 2002 and attended basic training at Ft Sill OK. Josh then attended AIT at Ft. Lee VA. Josh initially enlisted as a 92Y, in the CA. National Guard and attached to the 250th MI Bn. as their tactical HUMINT unit. In August of 2004 his unit was deployed to Iraq attached to the 525 MI Bn. in this unit Josh worked as a M2 gunner on his vehicle for the HUMINT team. When he wasn’t out on a mission he worked in the S-3 shop. During this deployment Josh suffered a hip injury. As a result of the anthrax vaccination for this deployment the right side of his face is paralyzed permanently.

Josh returned home for a year and re-classed to 13B and went back to Iraq with A Btry 1/143 FA as a machine gunner in a ASV. His unit was located close to Taji, and Sadr City doing security for a counter IED barrier mission until his return home in July of 2008.
